About Us
Earl Hanson is a neighborhood school located in the southwest corner of Rock Island, very near the Rock Island - Milan border. It is home to approximately 400 students in pre-K through Sixth grade. The school houses 13 multi-age regular education classrooms in addition to a variety of District special programs that include: two Headstart classes, two Early Developmental Resource classes, four multi-categorical special education self-contained classrooms, and two gifted self-contained classes.
Earl Hanson has a very diverse student enrollment. Its boundaries bring together students at the two poles socioeconomically. The divergent educational level and social backgrounds of parents and students contribute to the cultural diversity of our student population. Combining this diversity with all of the special programs the building houses makes this a very complex and unique school with the need to offer a broad range of educational opportunities and services.
Hanson has an experienced and dedicated teaching staff that is striving to develop a comprehensive educational program that will meet the diverse needs of its student population.

Multi-Age Organization
Earl Hanson is a multi-age building. Students are organized by age groups. We have created four instructional units: Kindergarten, Primary, Middle, and Intermediate. Beginning with the Primary level, students remain with the same teachers for two years which facilitates the learning process by reducing the time required by teachers to determine the learning needs of all their students every year. Our multi-age organization features team teaching, flexible grouping of students for instructional purposes, curriculum integration, and documentation of continuous progress of students using performance assessments.
