RIHS Band Alumni & Friends Reunion!
RIHS Band Alumni Night
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Thank you to everyone that joined us on Saturday, February 12th at the most recent RIHS Band Alumni Night. A fun time was had by all that attended, and Rocky won the game so that was like icing on the cake. We will have photos posted to the websites as soon as we are able, so keep checking in often to see what you missed! HA Can't remember the web addresses they are: http://homepage.risd41.org/bandalumni (RIHS official site) or http://groups.msn.com/RIHSBandMusicAlumni (MSN site).
We tried a few new things this year to help ensure future success of the reunions, First of all it was announced that Angi Bowker (Jennett) '91 will now be the head of the alumni committee (wanna be a part of the organizing group? please let us know), we are still working out the details but it appears you will still receive email announcements primarily from me due to high speed access but the ideas will mainly come from Angi. Second, we tried our hand at some fund-raising this year, we offered a 50/50 drawing, the lucky winner was Dianne Ewing (Collins) '91 who graciously donated her winnings back into the fund...THANKS DIANNE! We also had some individuals that offered to make a donation to the cause. Thanks to everyone who donated, you are so generous! If you would like to make a donation to the "fund" please feel free to contact Angi Bowker at rekwob51504@sbcglobal.net for details on how to do so. What is this "fund" for you might ask? Well, we are hoping to have some money available to offset costs incurred for mailing invitations, newspapers announcements, etc. Currently those offering to help organize the reunions are absorbing all costs associated...aside from postage, which the high school has graciously covered for several years! THANKS ROCKY!
There was some discussion on Saturday night on how we could expand the gathering to make it more accessible to a larger number people. One option discussed was to have multiple events to see which may draw the best turn-out. The idea of having a Homecoming related event in addition to the winter time Basketball event was discussed...if you have any input to offer please speak up...we want to hear your ideas. Please keep your eye on your email & snail mail boxes for announcements as they come available. Speaking of mail boxes, please consider dropping a line to Angi (rekwob51504@sbcglobal.net ) to confirm that we have your information correct. Due to costs and speed of delivery we'd love to utilize email primarily as our means of notification of events, but we don't want to miss anyone either, so make sure we have the email address you use most often, and if you have moved in the last 2 years or so, please check to make sure we have the most current info for you. As always your private information is secure with us unless you give us permission to release it to other alum interested in contacting you.
I sure hope you will consider joining us in future events, the more that come the more fun for everyone, and don't ever feel obligated to play, just come and chat with old friends. I know I for one didn't play very well when I was in high school and all these years that have passed since then have surely not helped! HA Just come and share stories of way back when or even get others up to date with you. I'm sure you won't be sorry.
Thanks again to everyone that joined us, even if in spirit! Can't wait for next year!
Michelle Voelkers (Crable) '91
On behalf of Angi Bowker (Jennett) '91,
Mr. Butterfield and the RIHS music Staff
